The life of Milo Scott Vance, affectionately known as Scott, stands as a testament to faith, service, education, and unwavering devotion to family. Though he passed away peacefully on December 11, 2019, at the age of 83, the impact of his life continues to resonate in the hearts of those who knew him, learned from him, and loved him.
Born on March 13, 1936, in Raymond, Alberta, Canada, Scott Vance lived a life defined by purpose and compassion. From an early age, he demonstrated a commitment to personal growth, education, and service. His dedication led him to graduate from the Olds School of Agriculture before embarking on a three-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the French Mission. That experience not only strengthened his faith but also laid the foundation for a lifetime devoted to helping others.
Education was one of Scott’s greatest passions. After earning his bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University in 1963, he dedicated his professional life to teaching French and English in Northern California. For countless students, he was more than an educator—he was a mentor, encourager, and role model. His classroom was a place where learning flourished, but more importantly, where students felt valued and respected. Many remembered him not only for what he taught but for the genuine care he showed toward every individual who crossed his path.
Scott’s greatest joy, however, was found within his family. In 1970, he married the love of his life, Colleen Fluharty, beginning a partnership built on love, faith, and mutual devotion. Together they raised two daughters and created a home filled with warmth, guidance, and cherished memories. As a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Scott exemplified kindness, patience, and steadfast support.
Those who knew Scott often admired his quiet strength and deep spiritual conviction. His faith was not merely something he practiced—it was something he lived. He found comfort in his belief in eternal families and shared that hope with those around him through both words and actions.
While his passing brought sorrow, it also inspired gratitude for a life so well lived. Scott Vance leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and faith that will continue to inspire future generations. His lessons, kindness, and unwavering example remain woven into the lives of his family, friends, students, and community.
Though he is no longer physically present, the values he embodied and the lives he touched ensure that his memory will endure for years to come. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
